Rajnath Singh cautions Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu against use of nuclear weapons in war
The Defense Ministry said Rajnath Singh reiterated India's stand on the need to follow the path of dialogue and diplomacy for an early resolution of the conflict. It said neither side should resort to the nuclear option because the possibility of using nuclear or radiological weapons is against the basic principles of humanity. It said that the two ministers discussed bilateral defense cooperation as well as the deteriorating situation in Ukraine.

The war between Russia and Ukraine continues even after eight months. Meanwhile, both the countries are contacting different countries of the world at the diplomatic level. In this episode, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu had a telephonic conversation with Indian Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh told Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu that the Ukraine dispute should be resolved through dialogue and diplomacy and neither side should resort to the nuclear option. In a telephonic conversation, Shoigu briefed Rajnath Singh about the evolving situation in Ukraine, including his concerns about the potential for provocation by the use of a 'dirty bomb', the Defense Ministry said. The talks took place at the initiative of the Russian Defense Minister amid escalating hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.

In response to a major explosion on a bridge connecting Russia with Crimea nearly two weeks ago, Moscow has carried out retaliatory missile strikes targeting various cities in Ukraine.
