Raja Raghuvanshi’s Mother Fires Powerful Questions at Sonam in Honeymoon Murder Case: ‘Why Did You Kill Him?’
Five accused in the case must be brought back to Indore for a full investigation to get to the *"complete truth"* behind the murder.

Raja Raghuvanshi’s Mother Fires Powerful Questions at Sonam in Honeymoon Murder Case: The older brother of Raja Raghuvanshi, who was murdered in Meghalaya as part of his honeymoon trip, has claimed that the victim's wife Sonam Raghuvanshi is misleading the police, and has requested that she be interrogated thoroughly.
On Thursday (June 19, 2025), he stated that Sonam and four other accused related to the case must be brought to Indore so that investigators can interrogate them and find out the complete truth connected to the murder, which created a flutter across the country.

The comments came on a day in which a court in Shillong extended the police custody of Sonam and Raj Kushwaha by two days.
“Sonam misled the investigators during her eight-day police custody and withheld key details about the murder. She must be remanded in police custody for a longer period for proper interrogation,” Raja’s brother Sachin Raghuvanshi told PTI in Indore.
He reiterated the request that a narcoanalysis of Sonam's entire family be done, claiming that her families and friends may have played a role in a conspiracy to murder his brother.
“It is not easy to plan such a massive conspiracy. The motive behind my brother’s murder must be clearly established. For that, Sonam and the other accused should be brought to Indore for detailed questioning,” he added.
Raja's mother Uma Raghuvanshi could not stop crying while recalling her son, and kept asking, “Why did Sonam get my son killed?” “She, her friends, and all those close to her must be interrogated in detail. What was my son’s fault, and why did she get him killed? I won't find peace until I hear the answer to this directly from Sonam’s mouth," she said.
Sonam, her alleged paramour Raj Kushwaha, and three of Kushwaha's friends - Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi - were arrested in connection with the midnight planned murder of Raja Raghuvanshi on May 23 in Meghalaya.
While a Shillong court granted an extension of police custody for Sonam and Kushwaha for two days, as for the other three accused as well - Chauhan, Rajput and Kurmi were placed in the 14-day judicial custody on Thursday.
Raja, who lived in Indore, went missing on May 23 during his honeymoon in Meghalaya; his mutilated body was recovered on June 2 from a very deep gorge close to a waterfall in the Sohra area of East Khasi Hills district, known as Cherrapunji.
On June 8, Sonam surrendered to police in Ghazipur district within Uttar Pradesh; Kushwaha and the other three accused were arrested from different places in MP and UP.
Raja had come from a family involved in the transport business. He married Sonam on May 11 in Indore and left Indore to go to Meghalaya for their honeymoon on May 20.
Police in Meghalaya are investigating the case by a special investigation team.
