All those who’ve been in contact with me recently, please follow all safety protocols and stay safe.
The news of Gandhi testing positive for Covid-19 comes just a day after former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh tested positive for the same and was admitted in Delhi’s All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS).
Rahul Gandhi had campaigned quite extensively in the states of west Bengal, Kerala and Assam. He was one of the early party leaders to call off holding public rallies as part of his campaign in the state of West Bengal, keeping in mind the looming second wave of Covid-19 infections.
He had taken to Twitter to inform of this development and advised other party leaders to do the same.
In view of the Covid situation, I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal.

I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences of holding large public rallies under the current circumstances.
Gandhi had also been criticizing the central government’s inoculation drive, its strategy and implementation. These criticisms were joined in by other party leaders in the country, following which the Centre amended its vaccine drive strategy and exchanged it for a more ‘accelerated’ and ‘liberalized’ version of it. Announcing the new decision to allow people of age 18 and above to start getting inoculated after May 1st.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter and wished him well and hoped for a speedy recovery. He wrote in a Twitter post, “I pray for the good health and quick recovery of Lok Sabha MP Shri @RahulGandhi Ji."
