After the Indian one-day cricket team lost the three-match series to South Africa by 3-0, former cricketer Rahul Dravid, who is a head coach of the Indian cricket team, spoke after the game and said that the team could have performed better, especially in the middle overs.
He said. "Whether you bat 4, 5 or 6, you have got to know what the team's requirements are. Shreyas has gone in pretty early in all three games and he has had enough time."
He said that though the players tried to do well, yet, sometimes it won’t be possible.
Dravid said, “We know guys have done well and we would like to back them as much as possible. Sometimes they would have good tours and sometimes, it won't be possible, that's just the way it is."
Dravid also said that there tends to be a lot of competition where players are pushing for places and “it's not easy in that kind of a situation."
He blamed poor shorts and the absence of smart performance in the critical hours of the game as he said, "We didn't because we played some poor shots and we didn't play some smart cricket at critical situations."
Having said that there are competitions for places among players he also assured that the team and the players will get consistency. “We want to give them that security", he said.
He added, “And once you give them that consistency and security, you also got to demand performances, really big performances and that is an expectation you have when you play at this level, when you play for your country, you have to put in big performances and that's a requirement. But idea is to give as much stability as you can."
