According to reports, the Delhi Police has detained over a dozen people in connection with the cases it has filed. The issue concerns the posting of black-and-white posters criticising the Prime Minister for selling Covid vaccines to other countries rather than meeting the needs of the citizens of the country.
The posters were discovered in Shahdara, Rohini, Rithala, Dwarka, and other areas of Delhi. Gayatri Garg, a ward councillor in Budh Vihar, told IANS: "On May 12, we learned that many posters had been hung in Budh Vihar, Vijay Vihar, and other places. Following the knowledge, my husband and I, as well as several other family members, had those removed on May 13th."
According to a Delhi Police source, the police have filed over 17 FIRs in connection with the Prime Minister's posters. According to the source, police have reported two FIRs in Central Delhi and arrested four people, two FIRs in Rohini and arrested two people, one FIR in East Delhi and arrested four people, one FIR in Dwarka and arrested two people, one FIR in North East Delhi and arrested three people, and one FIR in Shahdara and arrested one person.
The police have also obtained CCTV footage from the Shahdara district, where people were seen putting up posters, according to the source. According to the source, the individual is being interrogated by the police in order to identify other people. It went on to say that it was also discovered that people in the Shahdara region were paid Rs 500 for sticking three posters.
