Sri Lanka Crisis : Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe resigns amid huge uproar in Sri Lanka
In May, President Gotabaya Rajapaksa's elder brother Mahinda Rajapaksa was forced to resign as prime minister due to anti-government protests. After this Wickremesinghe became the PM but still there was no big difference.

Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe resigned from his post on Saturday amid massive public protests in Sri Lanka. Earlier, protesters had occupied the official residence of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, demanding his resignation.
The protesters were demanding the resignation of the President as well as the Prime Minister, adding to the pressure on Wickremesinghe. Prime Minister Wickremesinghe had earlier said that he was ready to resign but he would not resign until all parties formed the government and proved their majority in Parliament.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe called an urgent meeting of political party leaders on Saturday to discuss the crisis created by public protests in the country. A statement issued from Wickremesinghe's office said he had called an urgent meeting of the party and appealed to the Speaker to convene the Parliament session immediately.
