Prime Minister Narendra Modi will mark the launch of 5G service at the Indian Mobile Congress, which begins on October 1. Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, Bharti Airtel chief Sunil Bharti Mittal and Vodafone India's Kumar Mangalam Birla will also be present. Successful trial of 5G has already been done by Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) in four places in the country and 5G service can start in these four places as soon as 5G is launched. These four places include the area of International Airport in Delhi, Metro of Bangalore, Kandla Port and Smart City of Bhopal. Due to the trial, the complete infrastructure of 5G is also ready in these four places.
According to telecom company sources, at present customers will be able to enjoy 5G service only at the cost of 4G pack. The price of the 5G pack will increase only after it is fully rolled out across the country. However, according to Ericsson's report, 52 percent of 5G ready-to-use customers are expressing the possibility of upgrading their data plan in the next 12 months. At the same time, 59 percent of the smartphone users are ready to upgrade their service to 5G. However, 25 percent of the customers in India are connected to 2G service only.
Reliance and Airtel have also already announced the launch of 5G service in October. But no announcement has been made by Vodafone in this regard. Reliance had announced the launch of 5G in major cities of the country during Diwali and 5G service in all major and minor cities of the country by the end of the year 2023. Airtel has also done successful trials of 5G and is ready to launch in October.
