Adar Poonawalla, CEO of Serum Institute of India, tweeted on Saturday, 9 April and informed that Serum Institute of India has decided to reduce the cost of covishield vaccine from Rs 600 to Rs 225 for private hospitals.
This decision of Serum has directly relieved the state governments. Private hospitals have not got relief from this. 100 rupees will be saved by the state governments on every dose. Adar Poonawalla says that this decision of serum will save thousands of crores of rupees. However, this will not affect the common people. That is because more state governments have announced to introduce free vaccines. And if someone gets the vaccine from a private hospital, then he will have to pay 600 rupees for a dose of the vaccine there.
After the controversy over the different prices of the vaccine, the central government also intervened in it. It is being told that the central government had asked Bharat Biotech and Serum Institute to explore possibilities of reducing the prices of the vaccine. After this, Serum Institute has reduced the prices of Covishield by Rs 100 for the state governments. It is also being said that Bharat Biotech may soon reduce the prices of vaccines for the states.
