President, Prime Minister And Sports Minister Congratulates Indian Men’s Hockey Team for winning Bronze Medal

New Delhi: The President of  India Shri Ram Nath Kovind, Prime minister Shri Narendra Modi, Sports Minister Shri Anurag Singh Thakur, Former Sports Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju, several sportspersons and Bollywood actors feeling happy and congratulated the Indian Men’s hockey team for winning Bronze Medal in Tokyo Olympic Games 2020.

President Shri Ram Nath Kovind said this historic victory will start a new era in hockey. “Congratulations to our men's hockey team for winning an Olympic Medal in hockey after 41 years. The team showed exceptional skills, resilience & determination to win. This historic victory will start a new era in hockey and will inspire the youth to take up and excel in the sport”, he tweeted.

Prime Minister  Shri Narendra Modi also congratulated the Indian Men's Hockey Team for winning the Bronze Medal at Tokyo Olympics 2020. Prime Minister said that with this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth.

In a tweet, Prime Minister said; “Historic! A day that will be etched in the memory of every Indian. Congratulations to our Men’s Hockey Team for bringing home the Bronze. With this feat, they have captured the imagination of the entire nation, especially our youth. India is proud of our Hockey team.”

Shri Modi soon after the historic win made a surprise phone call to Indian Captain and Chief Coach and congratulated them personally. Shri Modi said, “Bahut, Bahut, Bahut Bahut, Bahut Badhai, aapki poori team ko badhai, bahut gajab ka kaam kiya hai, poora desh nach raha hai. Sabhi khiladiyon ko badhai de dena.”

On this Manpreet said, Namaskar sir, aapki Duaen hamare saath thi.aapka jo motivation tha wo kafi kaam kiya poori team ke liye.”

PM congratulated to Indian team’s chief coach Graham Reid and said “ Congratulations, your hard work and team spirit is giving us good results.” In reply, Reid said,  “ Thank you very much, Your words the other day after the Semi Final match, were fantastic and very inspirational for us.”

Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur also congratulated the Indian men’s hockey team, “A billion cheers for India. Our men's hockey team has done it. They dominated and defined their destiny in the Olympic history books today. After 40 years, they have made a mark. Big congratulations to the hockey team. We are extremely proud of the hockey team. They played really well as a team,” said Anurag Thakur.

Former Sports Minister and now Union Law Minister Shri Kiren Rijiju congratulated the team, in his tweet he wrote, “After 41 years wait..! A golden moment for Indian Hockey and Indian Sports! Finally, the long wait is over as India defeated Germany to win Hockey Men's Olympic Bronze medal at #Tokyo2020. India is in a complete celebration mood! Congratulations to our Hockey players !! #Cheer4India”.

Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi also praised the hockey team, “Congratulations to Indian Men’s Hockey Team! This is a big moment- the whole country is proud of your achievement. Well-deserved victory!” Rahul tweeted.

 Olympic Gold medal winner shooter Abhinav Bindra said in a tweet, “An emotional moment for the entire nation, a moment of pride. The long wait has ended! Congratulations to the Indian Men's Hockey team for their splendid achievement. @TheHockeyIndia”

Former Indian cricketer and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar congratulated the side and lauded Sreejesh for the last-minute penalty corner save. “Congratulations to each & every member of the hockey contingent on winning the #Bronze for India! A fantastic hard fought win…The penalty corner saves by Sreejesh in the dying moments of the game was amazing. Entire India is immensely proud!” Tweeted Tendulkar.

Cricketer Virender Sehwag wrote, “Chak De Fattey ! Burraaah A landmark day for @TheHockeyIndia After being down 3-1, INDIA fights back to win the bronze medal match 5-3, a first Olympic medal in #Hockey after 40 years. Mazaa aa gaya” 

 Akshay Kumar, watched the bronze medal match from start to finish. Congratulating the team on their bronze medal win, he shared a photo of the team with the Indian National Flag on his Instagram story and wrote, “Congratulations Team India on rewriting history! An Olympic medal after 41 years! What a match, what a comeback! #Tokyo2020 .”

The Badshah of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan wrote, “Wow!! Indian Men’s Hockey Team Congratulations. Resilience and skill at its peak. What an exciting match (sic).”

India's former track and field Olympic athlete PT Usha hopes that the bronze medal victory will be the start of ‘golden era’ in Indian hockey.
