PM, Vice President greet people on festivals such as Lohri, Makar Sankranti
While wishing people on the eve of Makar Sankranti and Pongal, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said that all these festivals symbolize good harvest, prosperity and gratitude.

As the country is celebrating various festivals in its different parts, the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and the Vice President of India M. Venkaiah Naidu have greeted people on these festive occasions.
While wishing people on the eve of Makar Sankranti and Pongal, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu said that all these festivals symbolize good harvest, prosperity and gratitude.
Naidu said, “I extend my warm greetings and good wishes to the people of our country on the auspicious occasion of Makar Sankranti and Pongal.”
He said that dedicated to the Sun God, Makar Sankranti signifies the beginning of the auspicious Uttarayana period.
“The festival is known by different names in different parts of our country. It is Pongal in Tamil Nadu, Bihu in Assam, Vishu in Kerala, in Punjab and Haryana it is called Lohri and Khichdi festival in Bihar. Reflecting the underlying cultural unity of our country, all these festivals symbolize good harvest, prosperity and gratitude,” he said in a text message released by the Vice President's Secretariat.
“May Makar Sankranti bring prosperity, peace and harmony in everyone’s life," he said.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted people on the occasion of Lohri. PM Modi took to Twitter and wrote, “Wishing you all a Happy Lohri.”
“I pray for everyone’s good health and well-being. May this special day further the spirit of brotherhood in our society," he added.
