PM Narendra Modi Arrives in Kuwait for Defence and Security Talks

PM Narendra Modi Arrives in Kuwait: Prime Minister Narendra Modi flew into Kuwait on Saturday for a two-day official visit time. During this time, he will be discussing bilateral cooperation with key leaders of the Gulf country and meeting the Indian diaspora and Indians living in the country.
The invitation was extended to PM Modi to come to Kuwait by the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah. The last visiting PM was Indira Gandhi, who visited it in 1981.
According to Indian officials, boosting defence and security cooperation will be a primary focus during this visit.
The Ministry of External Affairs also stated that discussions were underway to establish a bilateral investment treaty with Kuwait and a defence cooperation agreement.
As reported by Arun Kumar Chatterjee, the secretary for Overseas Indian Affairs in the Ministry, some bilateral agreements are likely to be signed during this visit. He said that it is expected to strengthen ties between India and the GCC, currently chairing Kuwait.
Before leaving, PM Modi said his discussions with the Kuwaiti leadership would provide an opportunity to map out plans for a future partnership between the two nations.
“I look forward to my meetings with His Highness the Amir, the Crown Prince and the Prime Minister of Kuwait. It would be an opportunity to chalk out a roadmap for a futuristic partnership for the benefit of our people and the region,” he said.
"We deeply value the historical connection with Kuwait that has been nurtured over generations. We are not just strong trade and energy partners but also have shared interest in peace, security, stability and prosperity in the West Asia region," he added.

India-Kuwait trade relationship
Kuwait has enjoyed fruitful trade relations with India, making her one of the top trading partners. The country also has Indian expatriates; Indians account for about 30% of its workforce.
According to the Indian Embassy in Kuwait, Indian workers dominate the Private Sector as well as domestic sector (DSW) workforce lists.
Among the countries topping India's list of trading partners is Kuwait, with trade as per year at USD 10.47 billion in FY 2023-24.
Kuwait was the sixth largest crude supplier for India, contributing 3 percent of energy needs.
