PM Modi speaks to Putin for safe evacuation of Indians
According to a press statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the issue of evacuating Indian nationals from strife-torn Kharkiv.

Thousands of Indian students and nationals are stranded in various areas in Kharkiv where a fierce battle is going on between Russian and Ukrainian forces.
As Kharkiv is in the Eastern part of Ukraine and close to the Russian border, it is not possible to transport them to Romania or Hungry which is more than 1200 km.
It looks like the government is exploring the possibility to evacuate these people from the Russian side rather than taking them to the Western part of Ukraine.
According to a press statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office, PM Modi spoke to Russian President Vladimir Putin on the issue of evacuating Indian nationals from strife-torn Kharkiv.
“Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi spoke on phone today with His Excellency Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation,” the press statement said.
It added, “The leaders reviewed the situation in Ukraine, especially in the city of Kharkiv where many Indian students are stuck. They discussed the safe evacuation of the Indian nationals from the conflict areas.”
According to the reports, Ukrainian citizens have become hostile to Indian citizens. Some reports say that Ukrainian Army has beaten up some of the students at the Romanian border. In such a situation, it is advisable to get them evacuated from the Russian side.
