What is the significance of Mahavir Jayanti?
During Mahavir Jayanti, we celebrate the birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, who was given the name Vardhamana when he was a child.
At the age of 30, Vardhamana renounced his princely status and began his spiritual journey in search of truth and enlightenment.
For 12 years, Mahavira practiced austerities and meditated in a forest to attain 'Kevala Jnana.' He then propagated the Dharma known as Jainism.
The core teachings of Mahavira are non-violence, non-stealing, chastity, and non-attachment. He was the 24th Tirthankara of Jainism.
Indrabhuti Gautama was Mahavira's main disciple and wrote his master's teachings for the benefit of humanity.
