Over 17000 new Covid-19 cases in Delhi but very few hospitalisations
Experts had earlier predicted the Omicron is a mild variant and it will not cause any severe case of Covid-19. The reports of infection confirm and data emerging from various other states confirm it.

The Covid-19 cases have shot up in Delhi as the single day case has been reported as 17,335. However, the number of people who have been hospitalised is extremely low which is a matter of great relief.
Experts had earlier predicted the Omicron is a mild variant and it will not cause any severe case ofCovid-19. The reports of infection confirm and data emerging from various other states confirm it.
Delhi’s positivity rate has also gone up to 17.73 per cent which means that out of 100 people who are being tested, around 17 are turning positive. Experts contribute the surge to the new variant of Sars_Cov_2 which is highly infective and transmit from one person to another very quickly.
Delhi’s Health Minister Satyender Jain had also anticipated that the positivity rate would go up to 17. Jain said that whether it is mild or not that only experts can tell. Fortunately, people getting admitted in the Intensive Care Unit is very low and according to Jain despite having more than 30,000 active cases only 24 people are on ventilators right now.
He also said that if people will follow proper Covid-19 behaviour, wear a mask properly, maintain social distancing and hand hygiene, the transmission will be low and the containment efforts will succeed.
It is expected that the daily active cases might go up further but the hospitalisation will remain low. The majority of people might experience very mild symptoms and they don’t need to get admitted to a hospital.
