Omnicron variant spreading at an unparalleled rate, might strain the healthcare system in the near future : WHO

The World Health Organization mentioned that the the Omnicron variant of the Corona Virus is spreading at an exorbitant rate and if not contained properly, will be a huge burden for the under prepared health care system. Since the new, heavily-mutated variant was first detected in South Africa last month, it has been detected in 77 other countries. However, the WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus also stated that the Omnicron is in a lot other countries, even if it hasn't been offcially reported yet.

The WHO spokesperson stated that the Omnicron variant is going to become the dominant variant in the next few days. The experts have warned that the current vaccines offer less protection against the upcoming variant.

The data has also included that the Omnicron variant has milder symptoms and that has led to people believe that this is not dangerous, which is an absolutely wrong conclusion. Seeing the current holiday season, when people are going to be together with families and friends, it becomes imperative to use precautions, otherwise it might overwhelm the healthcare system across countries, specially the underprivileged ones.
