The Omnicron Variant of the Corona Virus has been rising all across the world at an exponential pace. India has also been witnessing a large increase in the number of cases. With the holiday season, the chances of the spread are way more than usual as people start to gather more. In the wake of the current situation, several states across the country have announced restrictions in view of the new variant and to curb gatherings on Christmas and New Year.
Currently, India has 358 cases of the Omnicron variant across 17 states and UTs, with Maharashtra and Delhi dominating the number of cases. Delhi has banned all cultural events and gatherings for Christmas and New Year celebrations. The DDMA has stated that only 200 people will be allowed in weddings in the wake of the new variant spread. The bars and restaurants are also allowed to operate with only 50 percent capacity.
Maharashtra has also imposed a curfew from 9 pm to 6 am, while Madhya Pradesh has imposed a night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath also issued orders to initiate strict measures, including a state-wide night curfew from December 25 onwards.
