These reports are from the samples that were taken between December 30-31 from various parts of Delhi.
It is becoming apparent that in Delhi the rise in infection is mainly due to the Omicron.
A close source in the Delhi’s Health Ministry told The National Bulletin, “We don’t send all the samples of the people who test positive for genome sequencing because it costs too much. One genome sequencing costs something around Rs 5000.”
“So we send some samples out of the total daily active cases for genome sequencing and based on the result we find out the percentage of prevalence of Omicron in Delhi. For instance, if we have found 100 positive cases in a day and we send only 10 for genome sequencing, the result of the genome sequencing will show the spread of Omicron. If out of ten, 8 were found to be infected with Omicron, it means the prevalence is 80 per cent,” he added.
According to the Health Minister three labs situated at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, Lok Nayak Hospital and National Centre for Disease Control – have conducted genome sequencing on a few samples collected on December 30 and 31.
In these samples, 84 per cent were positive with the Omicron variant and the rest is with other variants.
