In August last year, the BCCI had announced cash prizes for the medal winners of the Tokyo Olympics, but the schedule was yet to be announced. A BCCI functionary said that when the IPL is about to start, what can be better than honoring these legends at that moment. One crore rupees will be given to Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal for the country. He is the first athlete from the country to win a gold medal.
Rs 50 lakh each will be given to silver medalist female lifter Mirabai Chanu and wrestler Ravi Dahiya. It has been learned from sources that Chanu will not be a part of this program due to being busy in practice. Bronze medalist wrestler Bajrang Punia, boxer Lovlina Borgohai and badminton player PV Sindhu will get Rs 25 lakh each. Apart from this, most of the members of the men's hockey team will also be present in this program. Men's hockey team wins first Olympic medal after 41 years, they will be given Rs 1.25 crore.
