The occasion of April Fool’s Day provides a great platform for brands and companies to go ahead and pull silly pranks and posts which produce great marketing campaigns for the firms. Every time April 1st comes around excited social media managers flock the twitter handles of their firms to put out something bombastic to entertain netizens.
This year the cab sharing service company, OLA nearly pulled out a successful prank on Twitter when its co-founder Bhavish Aggarwal released detailed information in a video about development of an electric flying car named AirPro. He tweeted, "Excited to unveil the world’s first and only fully autonomous electric flying car. The Ola AirPro." He added, “Ab har family bharegi udaan."
The car is supposedly driverless and so light in its weight that it can be lifted with one find. OLA’s twitter handle released a video for the car’s big reveal.
OLA was intelligent about their ad campaign for the flying car, they showed a futuristic designed car model. They almost had netizens with their humourous yet cheeky jargons such ethereum-ion cells based self-charging PuraCell battery technology, powered by Vertical Take Off and Landing technology and features such as 350 km/he speed on air, along with the fact that it’s made from Ola Alloy with no engine to run it making it noiseless.
Social media platforms went berserk over the witty humourous prank which almost had some people believing in the existence of Ola AirPro.
Author Chetan Bhagat loved the prank and joined in the humour by tweeting that,” Have been lucky enough to fly in one of these, and I must say the experience was amazing. It's truly a high, reaching one end of Mumbai to another in 4minutes. A revolution is coming!”
