Notification of Rampur assembly by-election issued, voting will be held on December 5
Earlier today, the Rampur Court dismissed the petition filed against the cancellation of the legislature of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. After two hours of hearing, the court rejected the stay application to stay Azam Khan's sentence. After which the notification of the assembly by-election has been issued.

Notification has been issued for by-election to Rampur assembly seat of Uttar Pradesh. It has been said by the Election Commission that the date of nomination is till November 17. On the other hand, polling will be held on December 5 and the counting of votes will be done on December 8. This seat has fallen vacant after the cancellation of the membership of Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan. Significantly, Azam Khan has been disqualified from the membership of the House after being convicted and sentenced to 3 years in jail for making inflammatory speeches. He gave provocative speeches about Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP CM Yogi Adityanath. On 27 October, he was disqualified under the Representation of the People Act 1951 and the ramp. Azam Khan had applied in the Supreme Court regarding the loss of membership, on which the court had sought answers from the Uttar Pradesh government and the Election Commission.
