New Delhi: In a major development, the North East Team of Harsh Vihar Police solved a blind murder case in a span of 48 hours. The accused has been identified as Sandeep Singh (21) and recovered the stone which was used in the murder.

Devesh Kumar Mahla, Addl. Dy. Commissioner of Police-I, North East District, New Delhi, said that “On the 13th of March at 7:17 AM, an information was received at PS Harsh Vihar that a person is found dead in front of Khasra, Seva Dham Road, Harsh Vihar Delhi. Immediately, SHO/Harsh Vihar along with his team reached the spot and found that one person aged about 40-45 years having head injury was lying in a pool of blood. The scene of the crime was preserved and the Crime team & FSL team were called on the spot. The identification of the deceased person could not be established.”

Consequently, a case vide FIR No. 253/22, dated 13.04.22 u/s 302 IPC was registered and an investigation was taken up by the Police. The deceased person was later identified as Ranjit (45) of Krishna Vihar, Phase 2, Loni Ghaziabad. Further investigations revealed that the deceased hails from the Barabanki district of the state of Uttar Pradesh and had a wife and four children in the family. He was a laborer and was living with his nephew at the given address.

It was a blind case and there was no clue about the accused persons. Keeping in view the gravity of the offense, a team of PS Harsh Vihar was constituted to work out the case, under the leadership of Insp. Suraj Pal Singh, (Inspr. ATO), SI Vinit, SI Abhishek Prateek Singh, HC Champat, HC Shailender, HC Sachin Rana, Ct. Sachin, Ct. Rusheel under close supervision of Inspr. Balram Singh, SHO/PS Harsh Vihar.

The team started scanning footage of the CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity of the scene of the crime and after cumbersome efforts, they were able to zero in on a suspicious person near the scene of the crime. After inquiry through locals, the suspected person was identified as Sandeep Singh (21) from Mandoli, Delhi. A raid was conducted at the said address and the above person was apprehended. He was interrogated at length where he confessed to his crime/involvement in the said murder. Details of the incident were verified and, in his instance, clothes worn by him at the time of the commission of the crime were recovered.

On sustained interrogation, Sandeep confessed that, on that day, late at night he was roaming in the area and while passing near the scene of the crime, had an argument and scuffled with the deceased. And in anger, he attacked the deceased with a heavy stone at his head. After verifying the necessary details, he was arrested in the case. The Police recovered the stone used in the commission of the crime. As per the Police, further investigation is under process.
