In a major development, the Gokulpuri Police arrested two snatchers and recovered a stolen phone and Scooty. The accused have been identified as Asif (23) and Shahrukh (22). To prevent street crime in the early hours, preventive patrolling teams are regularly present in the crime-prone areas of the North East District, and as a result, the accused have been apprehended.
According to Sanjay Kumar Sain, Dy Commissioner of Police, North-East District, “On the 27th of March, a police team comprising SI Dhirender, Const. Rohit, Const. Vipin and Const. Balram while patrolling in the early hours, reached near H-Block, Ganga Vihar Pulia. Around 07:30 AM, a police team noticed 02 persons riding on a Scooty, who made a U-Turn after having a glance at the Police.
They were then chased, and overpowered by the police team. During the search, one mobile phone was recovered from the possession of the pillion rider for which he couldn’t reply satisfactorily. They were identified as Asif (23) and Shahrukh (22). On checking the details of the scooty, it was found stolen. On sustained interrogation, Asif disclosed his involvement in 2 more snatchings and Sharukh has disclosed his involvement in snatching and auto-lifting.
One of the accused Shahrukh further disclosed that he used to steal the bikes and provide them to snatchers and later sell them to one scrap dealer. Sincere efforts to connect the mobile phone with the concerned case and nab the scrap dealer is on. Further investigation into the case is in progress.
