North East Delhi Police busted an Inter State Nexus of Illicit Liquor Trade

The Anti Auto Theft Squad of North East Delhi has busted an inter-state nexus of illicit liquor trade and recovered a huge quantity of illicit liquor marked as “For Sale in Haryana Only”. On some occasions, the Inter-State Illegal trade of illicit liquor by the means of public transport was being reported through local intelligence.

“On February 15, 2022, while patrolling in the area team AATS/NED received secret information. The same was verified through reliable sources and on the direction of senior officers a police team comprising SI Manoj Kumar Solanki, HC Rajdeep, HC Jai Kishor, Const. Amit, Const. Rahul and Const. Sandeep under the supervision of Inspr. Ajay Kumar Yadav IC/AATS/NED physically searched Nand Nagri and its adjacent area,” Sanjay Kumar Sain, DCP, North-East District, New Delhi, said.

He added, “The hard work of the police team paid off as the police team traced an Inter-State Tourist Bus No. . UP-14-KT-1404 parked in a service lane near District Park, Nand Nagri. A raid was conducted and driver and one more person were apprehended from the Bus.”

Primarily police team couldn’t find any consignment of liquor in the bus and both the apprehended person also didn’t divulge anything. However, keeping in view the importance of the information police team thoroughly searched every inch of Bus premises and located the hidden cavities under the body of Bus specially made for the purpose of smuggling of illicit liquor.

On opening the cavities, a huge cache of illicit liquor marked with red ink as “ for sale in Haryana only” was found. On detailed checking police recovered 264 Full Bottles, 2520 half Bottles and 1000 quarter Bottles of “Night Blue Metro Liquor”. Accordingly, a case was registered and an investigation was taken up.

During the course of the investigation, their identity was established as Sunil Kumar @ Sonu (Driver) and Sajid Ali. They confessed to their crime and revealed that they are operating Tourist Bus from Delhi ISBT Anand Vihar to Bihar.

As Bihar is a dry state and sale and consumption of liquor is not permitted there. They used to purchase the liquor from Sonipat/Murthal in Haryana and sell it at the higher rates in Bihar. On further interrogation, it surfaced that Sunil Kumar @ Sonu (Driver) is previously involved in one similar case of the Excise Act and Sajid is the owner of the Bus and had been previously involved in 03 cases of the Excise Act.

“Sincere efforts are on to establish and nab the sources of supply and receiver in Haryana and Bihar respectively. Further investigation in the case is in progress,” DCP Sain said.
