Normalising Communal hatred led to the collective harassment of Muslim women, 'Sulli Deals' reveal a sick mindset of our society.

Misogynistic worms surviving in people's brains depict how the easiest task in this country is to play with the dignity of a woman.

Normalising Communal hatred led to the collective harassment of Muslim women, 'Sulli Deals' reveal a sick mindset of our society.

The epithet "Sulli" is an abusive slur used at Muslim women that have been used in communal pogroms on numerous occasions. 'Sulli Deals' turned out to be the worst nightmare of girls who found their pictures with details in the public domain for 'auction'. The website was hosted on GitHub, a software development platform. The app's motto declares it to be a "community-driven, open-source project." The software will prompt the user to click on 'Find your Sulli Deal of the Day' once it has been opened. It would then show an Indian Muslim woman, most likely from her social media account, at random.

Following concerns, GitHub, the web platform that hosted the open-source app, promptly shut it down. "We terminated user accounts after investigating reports of such behaviour, all of which were found to violate our regulations," the business stated in a statement.

The selective outrage is not only limited to this particular incident. Targeting minorities and women has been a long term ego-satisfying deed for a specific section. There are infinite Instagram Accounts and telegram groups that post derogatory images and comments against women publically.

Sometimes a person might think if this section of society has the guts to post and promote such hatred, what might they talk about in a closed room when no one is listening. This happens when an ideology is so strong that it tends to normalise things that a person with conscience struck off immediately.

The Delhi Commission for Women had submitted a notice to the Delhi Police, requesting a full report on the incident.

"Acting on a complaint received on the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal regarding 'Sulli Deals' mobile application, a case under section 354-A of the Indian Penal Code was registered on Wednesday and investigation took up," said Delhi Police PRO Chinmoy Biswal.

What does this situation demand? Senior leaders and women who made their way in the cabinet recently should condemn this act. If one decides to remain silent on such issues, it shows how negligent they are towards the toxic mindset. Rolling out new IT rules and debating on them daily doesn't provide a safe environment for women to be socially active on different platforms.

The Editors Guild of India reacted to the situation by expressing grave worry over the harassment of female journalists who are critical of the administration. In a statement, it stated, "This vile attack is symptomatic of underlying misogyny in some sections of the society, especially against Muslim women,"
