Bihar is the base state of JDU, where Nitish Kumar has been in government for the last 17 years. JDU enjoys state level party status in Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur apart from Bihar. In the same year's assembly elections in Manipur, it had got 10.77 percent votes and won six MLAs. Although five of its MLAs later switched parties and sided with the BJP, it retains its regional party status. In Arunachal Pradesh too, JD(U) has got regional party status with 9.88 percent votes.
