New Toll Plaza Guidelines: Vehicles to be exempted from paying tolls under the new NHAI rules
Vehicles will be exempt from toll payment if their wait time exceeds 10 seconds, according to new NHAI guidelines. The regulation is in effect even during busy hours at toll plazas to enable the smooth movement of vehicles, and it currently only applies to cash payments.

From now on, you will no longer be required to pay the toll fee if your waiting time exceeds 10 seconds and you are more than 100 metres away from the toll booth. These rules are part of the new standards designed to maintain a smooth flow of traffic at toll plazas around the country.
These new standards will undoubtedly bring delight to many highway travellers who are anxious about long waits at toll plazas despite having a Fastag installed in their vehicle.
It is very good news today. To promote smooth and speedy passage of vehicles at toll plazas, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has announced new guidelines requiring a service time of no more than 10 seconds per vehicle even during peak hours.
According to the recent Ministry update, waiting times at toll plazas have been considerably decreased with the deployment of FASTag.
Furthermore, if there is a queue of more than 100 metres of waiting vehicles for any reason, the vehicles will be permitted to pass without paying toll tax. As per the administration, a yellow line 100 metres from the toll booth will be marked in each toll lane for this reason.
And, as social distance is becoming the new normal in the aftermath of the epidemic, an increasing number of commuters are preferring to use FASTag, which eliminates the possibility of any direct contact between drivers and toll employees. Since there is little contact between the consumer and the operator, these FASTags will assist in preserving social distance.
