So far, insisting President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has agreed to remove his brother and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa. Along with this the resignation of the entire cabinet will also be taken. Former Prime Minister Maithripala Sirisena gave this information after talking to President Gotabaya.
Opposition parties are also not ready to help the government. Their demand is that first the cabinet should resign and after that elections should be held by forming an interim government in the country.
President Gotabaya was under pressure due to the growing opposition. Main opposition leader Maithripala Sirisena met him on Friday afternoon. Shortly after this, Sirisena said- President Gotabaya has agreed to remove the Prime Minister and the entire cabinet.
Sirisena said- soon an interim government will be formed. There will be a new prime minister and cabinet. They will take tough decisions to get the country out of trouble. We don't want people to be burdened anymore. Will find a way for this. The new cabinet will be approved by Parliament.
One of the two most powerful political parties in Sri Lanka is the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, headed by Maithripala Sirisena. On the other hand, Sri Lanka is the Podujana Peramuna Party, headed by Mahinda Rajapaksa.
