Nawab Malik's statement against Sameer Wankhede should be investigated, court orders police
Sameer Wankhede had hit back by saying that Malik was after him as the NCB had earlier arrested his son-in-law in a drug-related case. After getting a clean chit in the case, Sameer Wankhede filed an independent complaint against Malik with the Mumbai Police in August, seeking action.
Maharashtra's Washim Sessions Court has ordered the police to investigate certain statements made by NCP leader and former minister Nawab Malik, who is currently in jail, against IRS officer Sameer Wankhede. Additional Sessions Judge Hemant M. Deshpande ordered the IRS officer's cousin Sanjay S. Following the complaint lodged by Wankhede, Washim (city) police station has been asked to investigate and submit its report.
In his complaint, Sanjay S. Wankhede demanded an inquiry under the SCST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Malik for his defamatory and false statements related to caste and caste certificates of Sameer Wankhede and his family. Noting that the police did not act on the complaint submitted on November 6, 2021, Justice Deshpande observed that considering the allegations leveled, an investigation is necessary in the present case.
Nawab Malik had accused Sameer Wankhede and his family members of presenting forged documents to get caste, government jobs in the press conference and on social media. Malik was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in February this year in a money-laundering case and has been in custody since then.
