In a recent development, former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu will now have to go to jail in the road rage case. The Supreme Court on Friday refused to immediately hear the curative petition. Sidhu will now have to surrender in court, otherwise, Punjab Police will arrest him.
Earlier, on the petition of Sidhu's lawyer Abhishek Manu Singhvi, Justice AM Khanwilkar said that we are sending the matter to the Chief Justice, and he will decide to hear it. Sidhu had sought one week's extension from the court to surrender on the ground of ill health.
If Sidhu's application is not heard today, he will not get relief till July 10. Because the court has summer vacation from 23rd May to 10th July. During this, the only urgent matter is heard. The Supreme Court's order to punish Sidhu for one year will first reach the Punjab-Haryana High Court. From there they will be sent to the District and Sessions Court of Patiala. If Sidhu himself surrenders then fine, otherwise the concerned police station will be asked to arrest him.
