National Commission for Women constitutes team to investigate 'auction' of girls in Rajasthan's Bhilwara
The NCW said that they have received information that such work is being carried out from several settlements in Bhilwara, where girls are sold on stamp papers for the wrong trade. He said that many such cases have also come to the fore in which girls' mothers are also raped on the orders of the caste panchayat i.e. Khap to settle disputes.
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has constituted a team in Rajasthan's Bhilwara to investigate allegations of selling girls to repay loans. The NCW has constituted a two-member team to probe the allegations. NCW said that they have come to know through several media reports that girls are auctioned in Bhilwara for non-payment of loan amount.
The NCW said that they have received information that such work is being carried out from several settlements in Bhilwara, where girls are sold on stamp papers for the wrong trade. He said that many such cases have also come to the fore in which girls' mothers are also raped on the orders of the caste panchayat i.e. Khap to settle disputes. The NCW in its statement said, "The Women's Commission has described the reported crimes as extremely horrific and painful and said that a two-member team has been constituted to probe the matter."
NCW President Rekha Sharma has written a letter to the Chief Secretary of Rajasthan demanding immediate action in this matter. At the same time, Rekha Sharma has also asked the Chief Secretary to provide information about the action taken by him. The National Commission for Women has also written to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Rajasthan to immediately register an FIR under relevant sections and arrest the accused at the earliest. Along with this, a copy of the letter has also been sent to the Bhilwara Superintendent of Police.
