Mumbai on Red Alert as IMD Predicts Heavy Rain; Airlines Issue Travel Advisory

Mumbai on Red Alert as IMD Predicts Heavy Rain: Mumbai is under a red alert today as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast heavy rain in the city and surrounding areas. However, the weather department has said that the intensity of rain in the city will decrease from tomorrow.

"While we want your journey to be as hassle-free as possible, Mother Nature has her own plans. With heavy rains expected again in Mumbai, there's a chance this could lead to air traffic congestion and impact flight operations," the advisory said.

The airline has informed that any changes in the flight schedule will be intimated to passengers through their contact details.

"While we continue doing our best to keep operations smooth, we recommend planning ahead. Any changes to your flight schedule will be shared via your registered contact details, so do ensure they are up to date," the advisory added.

On Tuesday, heavy rain in Mumbai had flooded streets that looked like rivers in many places, disrupting traffic and rail services in several areas.

Commuters had a tough time as local train services of Central Railway were disrupted on main and harbour lines due to waterlogging of tracks due to heavy rain, while flight operations were also affected.

Schools, colleges, government and semi-government offices were shut, and the Bombay High Court functioned only till 12.30 pm due to continuous rain.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who reviewed the flood situation with the disaster management department, said the next 48 hours will be crucial for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts which are on high alert.

While the weather department has issued a red alert for Raigad and ghat sections of Pune district today, it has sounded an orange alert for Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.

Central Maharashtra will see no rain, while parts of Marathwada and Vidarbha will receive light to moderate rain, it said.

IndiGo has issued a travel advisory for the heavy rain in Mumbai. SpiceJet has also issued an advisory.
