Mumbai: Metro Station Flooded as Water Gushes In Amid Record Rainfall The Worli underground metro station in Mumbai has been hit hard by flooding as the monsoon season kicked in earlier than expected for the financial capital.

The city has been experiencing heavy rainfall since last night, which continued into the morning, leading to waterlogging in various areas and causing traffic jams.

The water reached not just the gates of the station but also the platforms, waiting to enter the metro.

Earlier this month, on May 10, the Mumbai Metro Line 3, which connects Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Acharya Atre Chowk in Worli, was officially launched. However, the flooding at this newly opened station has raised concerns about the infrastructure's resilience.

Visuals on the internet showed rainwater flooding the underground metro stations in Mumbai as passengers waded through the water as they climbed up stairs and navigated through the stations.

Services on Metro Line 3 were curtailed, the metro operator said citing ‘technical issues’, with trains operating only up to Worli Station instead of Acharya Atre Chowk.

“Public Notice – Mumbai Metro Line 3 Service Update - Due to an unforeseen technical issue, train services on Metro Line-3 are temporarily curtailed and will operate only up to Worli Station instead of Acharya Atre Chowk. The India Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the financial capital as the city is battered by rain. The heavy rainfall is accompanied by thunderstorm, lightning and gusty winds in several parts of Mumbai.

As a precautionary measure and to ensure passenger safety, train services between Worli and Acharya Atrey Chowk have been temporarily suspended, the agency said.

However, the services from Aarey JVLR to Worli are not affected and are running regularly, it stated.
