Mukhtar Ansari dies after his health gets worse in Jail: During treatment at a medical college, gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari died after suffering a cardiac arrest in Uttar Pradesh's Banda.
After complaining of abdominal pain earlier in the day, Mukhtar Ansari, a jailed gangster-turned-politician, died on Thursday of a heart attack in Banda, Uttar Pradesh.
A heavy security arrangement was in place for Ansari's transfer to Banda Medical College in Uttar Pradesh. Paramilitary forces were also deployed outside Banda Medical College.
Sources told India Today TV that the 60-year-old politician's health deteriorated after he broke his 'roza'.
After doctors rushed to UP's Banda Jail, where Ansari was held, his health deteriorated. He was rushed to Banda Medical Hospital where his condition deteriorated further.
The jail authorities informed Ansari's lawyer, Naseem Haider, that the gangster-turned-politician had been taken to the Banda Medical College, but no further details were provided.
A former MLA from the Uttar Pradesh assembly, Naseem Haider, Mrukhtar Ansari's lawyer, also said he had difficulty speaking.
Afzal, an MP from Ghazipur, said when his brother was recently hospitalized "Mukhtar said that he was given poisonous a substance in food in jail. This happened for the second time. Around 40 days ago also he was given poison. And recently on March 19 of March 22, he was again given this (poison) due to which his condition is bad.”
The family background of Ansari was noteworthy as well. His grandfather was Mukhtar Ahmed Ansari, one of the early presidents of the Indian National Congress and a prominent member of the Indian independence movement.
