MSME Minister launches new khadi products- Baby wear, use and ‘throw slippers’
Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Narayan Rane launched Khadi products on Thursday. The two new exclusive products are ‘Khadi Baby Wear’ and ‘Unique Khadi handmade Slippers’ at Khadi India’s flagship showroom in Connaught Place, New Delhi.
The new products include unique handmade paper ‘use and throw’ slippers, Jhablas (sleeveless vest), frocks along with bloomers and nappies for new-borns and toddlers up to 2 years. Khadi and Village Industries Commission, KVIC has used 100 per cent hand-spun and hand-woven cotton fabric that is soft on the tender and sensitive skin of children and prevents them from any rashes or skin irritation. The cost of Khadi cotton babywear is Rs.599/- per piece while the slippers are priced uniformly at Rs.50/- per piece. The products can be purchased at khadi showroom in Connaught Place or through KVIC’s online portal.
The Khadi’s handmade paper use and throw slippers have been developed for the first time in India, handmade paper use and throw slippers are 100 per cent eco-friendly and cost effective. The handmade paper is completely wood free, made of natural fibres like cotton and silk rags and agro-waste. These slippers are weightless and best suited for travel and indoor usage like hotel rooms, homes, hospitals, places of worships, laboratories etc.
Rane emphasised on aggressive marketing of eco-friendly and sustainable products, while lauching it. “By capturing bigger market share in this sector, KVIC can create more employment opportunities and increase its consumer base by a big margin”, he said.
“Developing new innovative products to support rural and traditional industries and livelihood of khadi artisans has been the constant endeavour of KVIC”, said V K Saxena, Chairman of Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC).
