MS Dhoni Breaks Silence on IPL 2025 Retirement: Every time during the Indian Premier League, the fans eagerly wait for the India legend former captain MS Dhoni playing in the Chennai Super Kings color. The wicketkeeper-batter plays solely in the IPL, taking a break from cricket action for the remaining ten months, but that has not been the case for the last few seasons, as at the end of every season for the last couple of years, retirement speculations regarding Dhoni have been at large. While still playing for the Super Kings, his future with the franchise has been under significant speculation early into the 2025 season due to fitness levels and his role with the bat.
Dhoni came to bat at no.9 in a difficult run chase against Royal Challengers Bengaluru early in that season, as even CSK preferred to promote Ravichandran Ashwin ahead of the great finisher. Dhoni came to bat in the 11th over with CSK reeling at 74/5 in an 184-run chase against the Delhi Capitals on Saturday, but although he remained unbeaten, he could not take the side across the line, scoring 30 off 26 deliveries.
Amid the blooming speculations over his retirement, Dhoni has put forth the statement regarding his future plans. In an already taped podcast with Raj Shamani, Dhoni declared his intention of playing the whole season in 2025, and decision for next year would be taken over the coming months.
“Not right now (about retirement). I'm still playing IPL, and I've kept it very simple, I take it one year at a time,” Dhoni said.

“I'm 43, by the time I'll finish this July, I'll be 44. I've 10 months to decide whether I've to play one more year. It's not me who is deciding, it's the body which tells you whether you can or cannot. One year at a time. Fully focussed on what needs to be done right now. We will see after that, after 8-10 months,” said the five-time IPL-winning captain.
