in a shocking incident, more than 100 test positive in a Bengaluru Apartment Complex has been reported. They tested positive allegedly after a party at home.
A South Bengaluru apartment complex in Bilekhali has been declared a containment zone after 103 of its residents test CoVid 19 positive. This was post a mass testing drive by the district administration of all its residents.
The trigger seems to be two Marriage Anniversary parties organised in the residential complex around a week back attended by most residents. The residents got to know that the infection had spread after some of them got themselves tested before a planned trip to Dehradun.
Over 1190 people were tested by BBMP (Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike) officials. “We surveyed 399 residential units testing all residents and discovered 103 who tested positive for Corona Virus. One out these 103 has been admitted to a hospital,” a senior officer from the district administration said.
The BBMP had put in place various measures, including isolating and quarantining those who tested positive and intensifying contact tracing. “Most of those who tested positive are below the age of 50 and are asymptomatic,” informed the medical officer supervising the case.
After the announcement of the residential complex being designated a Containment Zone. BBMP Joint Commissioner, Bomanahalli Ramakrishna, told “the apartment has been fully sanitised, and each resident has been advised home isolation until further notice.”
BBMP has also sent samples to the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro-Sciences (NIMHANS) to find the variant of the virus. An official informed, “We are keeping watch on people with comorbidity, elderly, pregnant ladies, children’s health in the apartment. Most are asymptomatic and none of them so far had any travel history. We have declared a containment zone as per the protocol of the ministry of health and groceries and daily essentials are supplied to the residents in the apartment.”
India, which had been reporting close to one lakh daily cases last year, has been recording under 10,000 daily cases for the last few days. The Centre had last month declared that the country - the second worst-hit after the United States - has flattened the coronavirus curve. Experts, however, have warned people against dropping their guard against the virus because of the discovery of mutant strains abroad.
Karnataka is currently the third worst-hit state after Maharashtra and Kerala.
