Mock Drill Live: Hours after Operation Sindoor -- in which India hit nine Pakistani locations being used by terrorists -- India is conducting civil defence preparedness training across the country today. The training is being conducted in 244 districts across the country.
These exercises, called 'Operation Abhyas', were launched across the country after the minimize fatal terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir on April 22nd, resulted in the deaths of 26 people in the attack, along with heightened vigilance toward security in the country.
According to reports, states and Union Territories are directed to sound air raid sirens in their jurisdictions, implement blackout procedures in designated areas, and educate citizens, including students, on their safety response action in the case of threat of attack from the air or land. Government officials in states have announced that volunteers from the National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), and Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangthan (NYKS), in addition to students in schools and colleges, will also participate in simulations as part of the drills.
These 244 districts are being identified into three groups based on the level of civil defense program. Category I for districts requiring the highest level of civil defense program implementation, Category II for districts requiring middle level program implementation and Category III for districts requiring minimal level of program implementation.
