Meet Kishori Lal Sharma: Congress Leader Set to Challenge Smriti Irani in Amethi

KL Sharma is going to fight Smriti Irani, the current BJP MP in Amethi, in the Lok Sabha Election 2024.

Meet Kishori Lal Sharma: Putting an end to the suspense over the Gandhi family's traditional seats, the Congress party announced that Rahul Gandhi will run from Raebareli, while Kishori Lal Sharma will run from Amethi.

Rahul Gandhi, the scion of Gandhi's family, has been running from Amethi since 2004. Before him, his mother Sonia Gandhi and father Rajiv Gandhi had also run from Amethi.

KL Sharma is all set to contest the Lok Sabha Election 2024 against BJP leader and Union minister Smriti Irani, the present BJP MP in Amethi.

Rajiv Gandhi was the Member of Parliament from Amethi in the Lower House from 1981 till his death in 1991. Sonia Gandhi contested elections from here in 1999, before passing the baton to Rahul in 2004.

Kishori Lal Sharma, a Punjabi native, has been Sonia Gandhi's manager in Rae Bareli while she was away.

Sharma was closely associated with former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and his bond with the Gandhi family strengthened after his death in 1991.

He first came to Amethi in 1983 and has been working in the Congress party's constituency since then. Sharma played a key role in Sonia Gandhi's first electoral win in 1999.

After Sonia Gandhi vacated her seat for Rahul Gandhi in 2004, Sharma managed the party's affairs in both Amethi and Rae Bareli.
