Mamata Banerjee refuses to address at Netaji Event after audience chanted Jai Shri Ram
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her anguish with the crowd that raised slogans of Jai Sri Ram in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her anguish with the crowd that raised slogans of Jai Shri Ram in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
She refused to deliver the speech and left the dais while the PM was sitting there.
Mamata was in an event held at Victoria Memorial to mark Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s birth anniversary. PM Modi and West Bengal’s governor Jagdeep Dhankar also attended the event.
As it was announced that Mamata Banerjee will address, a section of the audience started sloganeering and chanting Jai Shri Ram. The announcer asked the audience to maintain silence.
However, Mamata got upset and said, “I think there should be some dignity of a government’s programme. It is a government programme and not one organised by a political party.”
“It is a programme of all political parties and government. I am thankful to the Prime Minister, Cultural Ministry that you people organised this programme in Kolkata. But after inviting someone, it doesn’t look nice to insult the person,” She said.
In protest, she said that she was not telling anything.
National in-charge of BJP's Information & Technology department, Amit Malviya tweeted, “Mamata Banerjee insulted the legacy of Rabindranath Tagore by refusing to attend Viswa Bharati’s centenary celebrations. She has done the same by not delivering her speech on the occasion of Netaji’s anniversary celebrations.”
“Bengal will not tolerate this disregard of its icons,” he added.
However, Trinamool MP Derek O'Brien hit back and wrote, “dignity (noun) The state or quality of being worthy of honour and respect. You can’t teach ‘dignity’. Nor can you teach lumpens to be dignified.”
He also posted the video saying, “Here is a one-min video of what exactly happened today. Including the dignified response by @MamataOfficial.”
