The Trinamool Congress Chief and Chief Minister of Bengal Mamata Banerjee can be seen in the hospital with her left foot plastered and hung to straighten, in Kolkata in a tweet shared by TMC leader Abhishek Banerjee. She says that she “was being pushed by few people in Nandigram” and fractured her foot, ahead of elections in the state.

The Tigress, as she is known in Bengal for her fearless moves and speeches, and attacks on the opposition, looked and sounded unperturbed.

Supporting this, the tweet alongside the picture, adds, “BJP, brace yourself up to see the power of the people in Bengal on Sunday, May 2”.

While Mamata’s critic says that it is “gimmick she is doing to get sympathy from voters in Kolkata” as a BJP MP said seeking anonymity, her admirers say, “Didi is known for her fierceness. Many of her detractors in Bengal, when could not fight with facts, started spitting on the TMC workers and this led to fight between the two. I was present at the site. But the coloured media portrayed it as TMC workers picking up a fight with BJP workers in a non-distinct alley in Kolkata. My problem is, political vendetta should not exceed to physical injury and insult,” says a TMC worker from Kolkata.

Meanwhile, TMC had brought its list of candidates list of 291 names for the 2021 Bengal elections confirming that she will be contesting election from Nandigram. In the list of 291 candidates, Trinamool Congress has dropped over 20 sitting MLAs and top ministers, including Partha Chattopadhyay and Amit Mitra. Many others aged above 80 years have also been dropped from the list.

A former TMC worker who recently joined Congress in Bengal, seeking anonymity says over the telephone, “I left TMC because I had reached a saturation point, Congress has space and probability. Let’s see what happens this elections.”
