The world record of lighting more than 15 lakh diyas simultaneously in Ayodhya, the world famous Jyotirlinga city of Lord Mahakaleshwar was broken on Mahashivratri. When the banks of holy Mokshadayini Shipra river in Ujjain lit up with the light of 18 lakh 82 thousand 229 diyas together late Saturday evening, people kept staring at this grand, amazing, supernatural and unforgettable unimaginable beauty without blinking an eye. During this, the entire Ramghat, Dutt Akhara Ghat, Sunhari Ghat, Bhukhi Mata Ghat, Kedareshwar Ghat resounded with the proclamation of 'Jai Shri Mahakal'. Meanwhile fireworks, laser show also took place.

More than one lakh people including Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan witnessed this happy moment filled with faith, joy and intimacy. Chief Minister Chouhan started the program by lighting the lamps along with his wife Sadhna Singh. He also went to the people by boating. Everyone wished each other a Happy Diwali. Invited people from all over the world to visit the religious tourist destination 'Ujjain'. On the request of the Chief Minister, apart from the Shipra beach, lamps were lit in every temple of Ujjain, from small and big streets to the main roads. Attractive lighting was done on the establishments. Songs prepared for the program – Mahashivaratri ka auspicious day, Ujjayini dekho aaj magan hai, Jai Gauri Shankar, celebrate together Shiv Jyoti Arpan were sung.
