Madhya Pradesh has secured the first position in the category of best performing states in the 'Swachh Survekshan Puraskar 2022' in the annual survey of the Centre, followed by Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra. Indore was adjudged the cleanest city for the sixth time in a row, while Surat and Navi Mumbai secured the second and third positions, respectively. The results of the survey were announced on Saturday. Indore and Surat retained their top spot in the big cities category this year, while Vijayawada lost its third position and Navi Mumbai got the spot.
As per the survey results, Tripura has topped among the states with less than 100 urban local bodies. President Draupadi Murmu presented the awards to the winners at an event here on Saturday. Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and others were also present on the occasion. Panchgani of Maharashtra stood first in the category of cities with population less than one lakh. This was followed by Patan (NP) of Chhattisgarh and Karhar of Maharashtra. Haridwar remained the cleanest city on the banks of the Ganges in the category of more than one lakh population. This was followed by Varanasi and Rishikesh.
