Maharashtra government will impose lockdown if Oxygen demand reaches 800 metric tons
Talking to reporters, Rajesh Tope said that Omicron cases are increasing rapidly in the state, however, these patients are not needing ICU admission.

The health minister of Maharashtra has said that if the demand for liquefied oxygen gas will reach 800 metric tons per day, the state government has no other way than to impose the lockdown.
Talking to reporters, Rajesh Tope said that Omicron cases are increasing rapidly in the state, however, these patients are not needing ICU admission. He said that such patients also don’t need oxygenated beds at the moment.
“The government will consider the lockdown measures only in case of the demand for Oxygen goes up to 800 metric tons,” he said.
Tope didn’t speak about the current demand though. However, he requested the people of Maharashtra to follow the appropriate Covid-19 behaviour in the state so that the government efforts to contain the virus become successful.
The Centre has recently said that even vaccinated people are contracting the new variant as it is escaping the vaccine-acquired immunity.
In such a situation, it is more important for people to follow appropriate Covid-19 behaviour so that it can help stop the transmission of the virus.
The Maharashtra government has already taken several measures to contain the transmission of the virus. On December 23, it imposed a ban on the assembly of more than five people in public places between 9 in the evening till 6 in the morning.
It also issued restrictions on the celebrations of festivals and functions in view of the increase in the number of infections.
