Mahakumbh Chaos: Devotees in Bihar Pelt Train with Stones After Failing to Board

Mahakumbh Chaos: At Madhubani railway station in Bihar, chaos erupted when devotees heading to Prayagraj for the Mahakumbh were unable to board the Swatantrata Senani Express.

The train's AC coaches were vandalised by frustrated passengers who couldn't get on due to overcrowding. Videos circulating online show agitated individuals throwing stones at the train, breaking windows, and forcing their way into compartments.

Overcrowding Sparks Chaos at Madhubani Station

According to eyewitnesses, the AC coaches of the Swatantrata Senani Express were packed with devotees, leaving train doors unable to open. As a result, a large crowd gathered at the station, and when they failed to board the train, they began hurling stones at it.

Videos circulating on social media capture the destruction, showing how the shattered glass from train windows fell onto passengers inside, triggering a heated exchange between those on board and the crowd outside.

The train faced similar chaos in patches between Madhubani and Darbhanga, where more devotees targeted AC coaches, damaging windows from M1 to B5 and A1 of train number 12561.

The situation escalated further at Samastipur station, where large crowds were seen climbing into AC coaches through windows, turning the compartments into makeshift general coaches.

With thousands from the Mithilanchal region rushing to Prayagraj for Magh Purnima, overcrowding led to a breakdown in order.

Railway police struggled to control the situation, as medical teams dispatched to treat injured passengers were unable to navigate through the massive crowd and had to return. Despite the chaos, the train eventually departed from Samastipur nearly an hour late.

The Mahakumbh Mela, one of the largest Hindu pilgrimages, has drawn millions of devotees to Varanasi, causing an unprecedented surge in demand for train travel.

The resulting chaos has overwhelmed railway infrastructure, with thousands of passengers struggling to find seats on trains.

The overcrowding on trains has raised serious safety concerns, with passengers at risk of being injured or worse.

Railway authorities have appealed to passengers to follow safety guidelines and avoid taking unnecessary risks.

Railway authorities have been working around the clock to manage the crowds, but the sheer number of passengers has made it a daunting task.
