DSP Gladwin Edward Carr and his team claimed to have killed gangster Bansi Gurjar in a police encounter in Neemuch on February 7, 2009.

Madhya Pradesh: Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Gladwin Edward Carr and head constable of Madhya Pradesh police Neeraj Pradhan were arrested on Wednesday by a senior police officer, alleging that they falsely reported killing gangster Bansi Gurjar in 2009, who, as it turned out, was alive 16 years later.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested both Carr and Pradhan in Ujjain today after subjecting them to three hours of interrogation in Indore.
Confirming the arrest made, Indore deputy commissioner of police (Law) Amit Singh said that two other police officers will be taken by the CBI for interrogation regarding their involvement in this fake encounter.
At that time, Carr was the town inspector in Indore, and he, along with his police team, had claimed to have killed the gangster Bansi Gurjar in a police encounter at Neemuch on February 7, 2009. Carr is now posted as SDOP at Panna.
Gurjar, said to be a resident of Manasa tehsil in Neemuch, was wanted by Rajasthan police after he managed to free his gang member Ratanlal Meena, from the police custody on February 4, 2009.

Gurjar was claimed to be the deceased by Kar and Pradhan, but they couldn't substantiate their claim as a complaint was made in November 2012 stating Gurjar was alive and his wife was pregnant with their child.
The encounter case was re-investigated by T. Amogla Iyer, then-Superintendent of Police, Neemuch, and the Ujjain police succeeded in capturing Gurjar alive on December 20, 2012. Following it, Govardhan Pandya, a resident of Ujjain, filed a petition before the Madhya Pradesh High Court asking for a CBI inquiry into the case, alleging a conspiracy of police to kill an innocent man.
The state had ordered CID to probe the case but failed to make any progress. Therefore, the case was handed to the CBI in November 2014. The identity of the persons killed by the police is yet to be ascertained.
