People celebrate the festival with a variety of delicious sweets, thandai and play with coloured powder, water, and balloons. And, the evening before Holi is celebrated as Holika Dahan or Chhoti Holi, in which people light a bonfire to signify the burning of the demon Holika.
However, on the other hand, India is facing the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic. Furthermore, in the past 24 hours, India has registered 62,714 fresh coronavirus cases, the Covid-19 tally in India has climbed to 1,19,71,624. And as India sees an upsurge in coronavirus cases daily, several states have declared a ban on the public celebration of the Holi festival.
Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi had cancelled Holi Milan and urged people not to play Holi in big gatherings. Further, if people don't adhere to the Covid-19 protocol, the health authorities and experts are worried that the upcoming festivals of Holi and Shab-e-Baraat may turn into super-spreader events.
