Live Earthquake Myanmar-Bangkok: Thai Authorities Seek Foreign Assistance, 50 People Trapped Under a Collapsed Building

Live Earthquake Myanmar-Bangkok: The number of persons killed from a massive earthquake in Myanmar has risen to 1,002, and 2,376 others were injured, the ruling junta of the country said on Saturday.

The shallow 7.7-magnitude quake struck northwest of the city of Sagaing in central Myanmar on Friday causing massive destruction across large parts of the country.

The death toll from a major earthquake in Myanmar has risen to 1,644, reporting Saturday the ruling junta, with 3,408 injured.

At least 139 people are still counted as missing after the shallow 7.7 magnitude quake rattled the region on Friday, said a statement from the information team of the junta.

More than 30 hours after the destruction of a powerful earthquake that wreaked havoc in Myanmar, rescuers retrieved a woman alive from the rubble of a collapsed apartment building in Mandalay Saturday, evident from what AFP reporters witnessed. Phyu Lay Khaing, 30, was pulled from the Sky Villa Condominium and carried off on a stretcher for an embrace with her husband Ye Aung and taken to the hospital.

By bolstering its operations for relief and rescue in the earthquake-affected Myanmar under 'Operation Brahma', India sent two naval vessels to the neighbouring country, while a field hospital would be airlifted later on Saturday, as reported by the Ministry of External Affairs.

The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, claimed in a press briefing that this humanitarian assistance operation will be followed by two more Indian naval ships.

He added that, besides Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) being sent through aircraft, a field hospital with 118 constituents from Agra is also expected to depart later on Saturday.
