Congress presidential election: Counting of votes begins at party headquarters, and the party will get a new president today. The counting of votes for the post of party president, held after 24 years, started at 10 am.

Congress party will get a new president today. The counting of votes for the post of party president, held after 24 years, started at 10 am. Ballot boxes were sent to all state Congress committees across the country for elections. They have been brought to the Congress Headquarters (AICC) at 24 Akbar Road in New Delhi. This is where all the votes are counted. Results are expected by 4 pm.
Mallikarjun Kharge and Shashi Tharoor are facing each other for the post of Congress President. During the counting, Tharoor supported Salman Soz's alleged irregularities before, during, and after voting in many states including Uttar Pradesh. Soz said- We have informed the party's election in-charge, Madhusudan Mistry, about this. Here, Congress leader Pramod Tiwari said that Kharge is winning by more than 90% votes.
Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot said- Sonia Gandhi has been the President of Congress for 22 years, but she did not accept the post of PM. For 30 years this family did not come to any post. Had only taken over the responsibility of the organization, and that too left. We all are sad about this. Had Rahul Ji handled this, a new message would have gone.
Gaurav Gogoi, counting agent of Mallikarjun Kharge said- It is a historic moment, we are proud that we conducted elections in such a democratic manner. Kharge sahib and Shashi Tharoor said that whoever becomes the president, will consult with everyone and will definitely listen to the advice of Sonia Gandhi or the Gandhi family.
Whoever wins this election will be the 65th leader to become the Congress President. Many of these leaders have been presidents more than once. If Kharge wins, he will be the second Dalit leader to become the Congress President. Babu Jagjivan Ram was the first Dalit leader to become the Congress President. After independence, the leadership of the party remained with the Gandhi family for 42 out of 75 years. At the same time, for 33 years, the reins of the party president remained with leaders other than the Gandhi family.
Members of the Congress Party took to Social Media and shared their opinions. Bhupen Kumar Borah, President-Assam Pradesh Congress Committee, said, "Participated in the AICC Presidential Election held at Rajiv Bhawan, Guwahati today as a delegate and dutifully cast my vote. Congress Party believes in inner party democracy and we all shall uphold those values.
Ketan Patel wrote, "Congress Party has always stood for democracy and today is another example of its solid foundation & ideology. The beauty of democracy is that your greatest power lies in your vote."
