Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has ordered to stop the anti-encroachment drive in Mehrauli and Ladho Sarai for the time being. The governor's decision came after a delegation of residents of these villages met the LG and sought relief from the demolition drive citing discrepancies in the demarcation of land in these areas. The demarcation was done in 2021 by the AAP government. Vinay Saxena directed the DDA Vice Chairman and the local administration to immediately stop the demolition drive and assured the residents that their complaints would be looked into and discrepancies pointed out by them would be probed.
After listening to the grievances of the villagers in detail, the Lt Governor assured the residents that no injustice would be done to any rightful owner of the land. He said that the complaints of the residents will be thoroughly investigated and if any wrongdoing is found on the part of any officer, strict action will be taken against the erring officers.
The LG also reiterated that no action would be taken against the legal and rightful occupants but any illegal encroachment or unauthorized occupation around the heritage monuments would be removed immediately in compliance with the orders of the High Court.
