Kolkata doctors hunger strike ends: Junior doctors who were on a 17-day hunger strike ended it on Monday after being asked to do so by the parents of the training doctor who was raped and killed at the RG Kar Hospital and Medical College.
In the past, the doctors had also met with Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of Bengal.
After the two-hour meeting, the doctors said that the "body language" of the government leaders made them feel "unhappy."

"During today's meeting (with the CM), we were promised some instructions, but the state government's body language was not positive... The average people have been completely behind us. A spokesman for the doctors said, "They and the parents of our deceased sister (RG Kar hospital victim) have been asking us to end the hunger strike because our health is getting worse."
So, one of the junior doctors, Debashish Halder, said, "We are pulling back our 'fast-unto-death' and also Tuesday's total shutdown in the health sector."
Following a meeting of all the doctors, the choice was made.
The younger doctors, on the other hand, thought they could "bargain" and get some of the changes they wanted. Also, they said there would be no strike on Wednesday.

Kunal Ghosh of the Trinamool Congress was pleased with the news and said, "We are happy that finally the junior doctors have ended their hunger strike, and they will also not go on strike tomorrow." They can tell us about any issues, and we can work together to improve the health system.
Junior doctors at the R G Kar Medical College and Hospital have been protesting against the claimed murder and rape of a coworker on August 9. The accident happened when the resident doctor was off duty and went to sleep in a training room at the hospital.
After the event, the younger doctors were told to "cease work." They stopped their protest on September 21, after 42 days, after the state government promised to look into their requests.
But on October 5, they went on a hunger strike at the Dorina crossing in Dharmatala, which is in the middle of Kolkata. They said that the government did not meet their requests.
